    Join our expert panelists as they different options for radio traffic systems. The place to start is with a look at system utilization and efficiencies – electronic invoicing and contracting, flexibility in reporting and inventory. What are the pros and cons of various set-ups including: centralized; decentralized, and other forms of traffic structuring, such as operating multiple stations from one location? What do these structures mean for staffing and shared personnel?   • Digital Music Rights
    This session outlines compliance with the statutory license applicable to the performance of sound recordings over the Internet, meaning “webcasting” or “streaming”.  It will examine the three main obligations incumbent upon a webcaster, with primary emphasis on broadcasters  who are simulcasting an over-the-air transmission via the Internet:  payment of copyright royalties, filing of playlist reports of use and conformance with the “sound performance complement” intended to limit  music piracy.  The session will cover the law as implemented by the Copyright Royalty Board and as altered by the several settlement agreements.  It will also demonstrate proper completion and filing of required forms and reports.

  • The Changing Landscape of Worker Classification
    This session will cover the current federal and state landscape in terms of the utilization of independent contractors as part of a  company’s workforce, and particularly as they pertain to the media industry.  Key topics will include current federal legislation with respect to the closing of perceived ”loopholes” in the utilization of independent contractors; the effect recent publicity might have on future legislation and  IRS and State audit attention and enforcement in this area.  This session will have a discussion of the potential exposure and corporate risk in the event of IRS or State reclassification of workers from Independent Contractors to employees, an examination of leading practices for those companies which utilize Independent Contractors and a look at discussion of worker classification issues pertinent to the media industry.

Keynote Speakers:

Richard Lui, News Anchor for HLN, Atlanta, GA
Mr. Lui serves as the network’s late morning anchor and as a news correspondent for Morning Express with Robin Meade.  Since joining CNN in 2005, Lui has anchored live coverage of major breaking stories including the Virginia Tech shootings, the Hezbollah-Israeli conflict, the Mumbai train terrorist bombings and the Enron guilty verdicts.  Some of his recent foreign reports have focused on scanning technologies at the world’s busiest port in Singapore and economic effects of the 2002 Bali bombings in Indonesia.  His recent field reports have focused on terrorist activities and attempts to counter improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Prior to CNN, Lui worked at Channel NewsAsia, an English only news networking reaching 21 Asian countries and territories. Prior to that, he spent 15 years in business, most recently at Blink Mobile, where he and his co-founders developed a patented process for launch of the first bank-centric payment routing network. Mr. Lui will share his experiences as a reporter and a business person.

  • IFRS Is Coming – and What it Means to You
    IFRS continues to be a hot topic as the SEC continues to evaluate the path forward for U.S. companies.  However, for many companies, dealing with IFRS is already a reality as foreign subsidiaries potentially adopt IFRS or foreign acquisition targets present financial data in accordance with IFRS.  Convergence efforts will result in changes to IFRS and US GAAP in the short term.  Hear a member of the International Accounting Standards Board and liason to the FASB, along with the head of Ernst & Young's IFRS efforts in the U.S., discuss these and several other topics.
